What My First Client Taught Me About Service
A one-hour consultation that reshaped how I serve every client after it.
My first consulting client paid me a small fee for an hour of my time — and I almost did not take it seriously because of the amount.
I prepared anyway: a written agenda, their state's requirements printed, questions ready. The call lasted two hours. I gave away far more than the fee covered, and I do not regret a minute of it.
That client referred two more. The lesson stuck: the size of the first payment never sets the standard of the work. Preparation and respect for someone's dream is the product. The fee just opens the door.
